How to Use This Etsy Fee Calculator
Enter the item price your buyer pays and the shipping you charge — Etsy's transaction fee applies to both, which surprises many new sellers. If the sale came through an Offsite Ad (Etsy's ads on Google, Facebook, Instagram, and Pinterest), select your rate: 15% if you sold under $10,000 in the past year and opted in, or the mandatory 12% if you're over $10,000. Finally, add your material and shipping label costs if you want the calculator to show true profit and margin rather than just Etsy's cut. Click Calculate and you'll get a line-by-line fee breakdown identical to what you'd see on your Etsy payment account.
Every Etsy Fee in 2026, Explained
Etsy's fee structure has four moving parts. The table below shows the current rates this calculator uses, which match Etsy's published Fees & Payments Policy:
| Fee | Rate (US sellers) | Applied To |
|---|---|---|
| Listing fee | $0.20 | Each listing, and each renewal after a sale |
| Transaction fee | 6.5% | Item price + shipping + gift wrap |
| Payment processing | 3% + $0.25 | Total order amount (incl. shipping & tax) |
| Offsite Ads (if applicable) | 15% or 12% | Order total; capped at $100/order |
Two optional costs aren't included by default: Etsy Ads (onsite ads with a daily budget you set) and the $15/month Etsy Plus subscription. Add them to your "costs" input if they apply to you. Payment processing rates also differ slightly outside the US — for example 4% + CA$0.25 in Canada and 4% + £0.20 in the UK.
Worked Example: A $35 Sale With $5 Shipping
Say you sell a handmade candle for $35 and charge $5 shipping, and the sale did not come from an Offsite Ad. Your order total is $40. The fees stack up like this: listing fee $0.20; transaction fee 6.5% × $40 = $2.60; payment processing 3% × $40 + $0.25 = $1.45. Total fees: $4.25, or 10.6% of the order. You receive $35.75. If your materials and shipping label cost $12, your profit is $23.75 — a 59% margin on the $40 order. Run the same sale through an Offsite Ad at 15% and Etsy takes another $6.00, dropping your profit to $17.75.
Five Legitimate Ways to Lower Your Etsy Fees
You can't negotiate Etsy's rates, but you can manage them. First, build shipping into your item price where practical — the fee math is identical, but "free shipping" listings get search placement priority, so you earn more per fee dollar. Second, if you sell under $10,000 a year, evaluate whether Offsite Ads are worth 15% — you can opt out in Shop Manager, and for low-margin items an Offsite-Ad sale can be unprofitable. Third, renew listings in bulk deliberately rather than auto-renewing slow movers, since every renewal is $0.20. Fourth, raise prices to your margin target using the calculator above — divide your total costs by 0.75–0.80 as a starting point, then fine-tune. Fifth, compare marketplaces for each product line: our 2026 marketplace fee comparison shows where your specific price point keeps the most money — sometimes Mercari's flat 10% or eBay's rates beat Etsy, especially for vintage items.
Who This Calculator Is For
New Etsy sellers use it before listing their first product, to set prices that survive the roughly 10–13% fee load. Established shops use it to audit whether Offsite Ads sales are actually profitable and to reprice when material costs change. Resellers and vintage dealers compare their net here against Poshmark, Mercari, and eBay before choosing where to list. And accountants and spouses of sellers use it to answer the eternal question: "so how much did you actually make on that?"
